Here are a series of U.S. Navy photos taken by PH3 Eric Hayhurst & Don S. Montgomery (USNRET.) in November 1990 aboard the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN-72).
The S-3A Viking, BuNo 159410, is from VS-29 Screaming Dragon Fires. The photo series shows the aircraft from the time it approaches the crash barricade until it comes to a complete stop. Then as the flight deck crewmen haul away the crash barricade and the crash crane maneuvers into position to remove the S-3A.
The aircraft was unable to make a normal arrested recovery because of damaged landing gear.
