Naval Aviation Museum
NAS Pensacola, Florida

One of the finest aircraft museums in the United States is at NAS Pensacola, Florida. They have most of the aircraft that served in the US Navy, plus some one of a kind aircraft, all of which have been restored to mint condition. Because there are so many retired Navy personal that live in the area, , they know how they should look they have really taken pride on restoring them to their original condition.

Other reasons for visiting:

  • The upper level of the Museum has many special features such as, scenes from the past (a POW camp, and typical American City during WWII), a NASA display, Memorials for special Naval Aviation categories, and more.

  • There is a full size A-4 (Skyhawk) Blue Angel diamond formation hanging in the Atrium of the Museum -- a must see! Three of the four are actually former Blue Angel Aircraft.
  • There is also an IMAX Theater in the main facility featuring many fine films. "Magic of Flight" will take you flying with the Blue Angels, for example.
  • You can tour the flight line by bus and view other aircraft that are being restored for future display.
  • The Blue Angels hold their practice show behind the Museum, so you can get a really good seat without the big crowds. The Museum provides bleacher seating. You can check the practice schedule on the Museum's Website.
  • An excellent restaurant, the "Cubi Bar" which is a reconstruction of the bar once enjoyed by Naval Aviators the Phillipines. The decor is spectacular, so even if you're not hungry, be sure to stop by just to see the sites!

There is always a great need for funds, as these aircraft are expensive to restore. You can join the Naval Aviation Museum Foundation's membership rolls at one of several different levels, and you will be rewarded by a 10% discount for any items purchased at the Museum's Flight Deck Shop. You may shop at the store, via the Internet, and you will receive a Flight Deck catalog in the mail. You will also receive a wonderful semi-annual magazine called the "Foundation" and a quarterly newsletter called "Fly By."
