"Wildcats"
VFA-131

 

 

Two F/A-18C "Hornets" from the "Wildcats" of Strike Fighter Squadron One Three One (VFA-131) patrol the skies over the Arabian Gulf, March 25, 1996. VFA 131 is part of Carrier Air Wing Seven (CVW-7), currently embarked on board the U.S. Navy’s nuclear powered aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73). The George Washington is presently deployed to the Arabian Gulf in support of UN-led sanctions against Iraq, under Operation Southern Watch.

Operation Enduring Freedom (Mar. 29, 2002) -- An F/A-18 "Hornet" from Strike Fighter Squadron One Three One (VFA-131) flies equipped with the first combat carriage of the new GBU-32 Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) mounted under its starboard (right) wing. VFA-131 is part of Carrier Air Wing Seven (CVW-7), deployed aboard USS John F. Kennedy and is conducting combat missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Atlantic Ocean (March 8, 2006) - An F/A-18C Hornet assigned to the "Wildcats" of Strike Fighter Squadron One Three One (VFA-131), launches from the flight deck of the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69). Eisenhower and Carrier Air Wing Seven (CVW-7) are underway training for a future deployment.
