OLD AIRCRAFT STILL FLYING

These photos came by way of Alf Batchelder.

A "Harvard", as we call it in Australia, in South African colors. Harvards were not flown in Australia by the RAAF (A couple were apparently flown overseas in World War II according to recent research). However, we did produce an earlier version, with a fabric-covered fuselage, called the Wirraway. However, many RAAF pilots trained on Harvards in Canada and Rhodesia. In recent years, several T-6's have been imported and they're now a familiar sight in Australian skies. This one was photographed late in 2001 at an airshow at Tyabb, in Victoria, on a day that saw torrential rain at times.
